	The "fuse" is just a solder joint made from solder with a low 
melting temperature.  When the solder melts, the two pieces of metal 
that the joint was securing just spring apart to create an open 
circuit.

	It's possible that somebody "repaired" this clock by 
soldering a wire where the glob of solder used to be.  I once 
"repaired" a clock this way, before I knew better.
