<x-charset iso-8859-1>Condensers don't have a specific life; new ones may fail immediately! They either work or don't (usually fail due to internal shorting). A suspect coil might cause burning of the points too. That might only happen after running a while. The hole through the points might be "ventilated points" that are made that way, but I presume that would have been obvious to you. Burnt points are usually bad coil or bad condenser. Was the burnt hole on the fixed contact (condenser problem) or moving contact (coil problem). Wrong value components would do similarly, so make sure they're right. Dave.
