This works a LOT better on some VOMs than on others. It works a lot better 
on analog meters than on digital meters, and it works much better on high 
Ohm scales than on low Ohm scales.  

This is a good skill to learn, but it takes some practice, skill, and 
understanding before you can start to make decisions based on it.
