My bone-stock '66 Square runs at a consistent 185-195 F here in Phoenix, where it has been above 110 every day for the past few weeks. My '66 Beetle runs a bit hotter, though, at around 220 F. The Beetle has a 1641 dp with 34 pict carb, full flow, doghouse cooler, stock exhaust. I have driven both with no problems for the past seven years, and even cross-country once in the Square, and twice in the Beetle, (both times in the middle of summer). I had a 1776 in my first Square, (a '71) about ten years ago, with dual 40 Dellortos, Engle 110 cam, and it also ran cooler than my Beetle does now, at 190-200 F. I don't understand why the upright engine runs hotter, maybe because the '66 type 1 doesn't have enough air intake vents for the larger fan and doghouse cooler? The type three's fan definitely seems like it could push much more cfm's than the type 1, too. -Yancy Everhart >what kind of oil temps are finding you can live with and still get lots >o' miles out of your motor? ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
