<x-charset iso-8859-1>My opinion (which is based on fact) is that valve timing plays a big part in deciding what compression ratio to have. Static compression and dynamic compression are different entities. Motorcycle engines, which do not have knock sensors are up to 12:1 but have very long valve durations. What often works in favour of these motors to a lesser extent than valve timing is a small bore (faster flame advance to cylinder edge and optimum chamber shape). I agree that at 6.9:1 you are robbing yourself of power, milage etc. I think your 92 octane (MON?) is the similar to our 96 (RON) here in Aus which is what I use. My mild type IV van is 8.1:1, standard T3 7.8:1 and 1835 with engle 110 around 9.2:1, which is higher than I would have liked, but does not seem to be a problem. All of these have at times run on 92 RON ULP when 96 has not been available.
