looks like the wire that goes to the back of your speedo for
illumination has shorted out on the body burning the wires .
had this happen to me a few years ago .
when i replaced the wireing i made sure i used spade connectors with
insulation on them unlike the factory ones that were bare metal . this is a
design flaw the wire passes thru a hole to attach to the bulb holder it was
just asking to happen.
you have made it a little to close when you were in the dash and it has
rubbed.
ensure all the fuses fitted in the fuse box are of the correct rateing and
have not been progressively replaced by larger over the years !!!.
stinks as well dont it.
