It takes .9 pints according to the Without Guesswork book. There is a metal flange around the inside of the lower part of the air cleaner. Fill to the bottom of this flange. I usually fill the crankcase to the full mark 5.3 pints, then put the rest of the 3 quarts into the air cleaner.
