Hey Dave, I think You have your setting on the carbs right. Coconut brown is the key color you wan to have. Does the sound - sound like a spray paint can being shaken? IF so its your timing or your gas. Before you make any adjustments on the carb do this... Rotate your Distributer about 5 degrees. It is not much. Just barley move it clockwise. By this you are retarding the timing. also if you are running cheap reg. grade gas, you may be experiencing trouble with that too. I ahve had this trouble and after I stopped used the crap gas the trouble went away. Always use super unleaded - it keeps the head much cooler and you get better performance and milage anyway ,and if you look at it you only pay like 2 - 3 dollars more. and that is very cheap considering the benifits. If after all this you have done and its still doing that I would check the temperature of the head and make sure you have good oil pressure too. also Check if your thermostat is working (if you have one). > really psyched for the trip but would hate to have > to R&R my engine at > who-knows-where along the way.
