What do you see when you clip your inductive timing light around the # 2 and 
# 3 wires? Do they both flash? Does the timing of # 3 look about the same 
as that of # 1? 4 & 2 should also look alike.

Are you sure you have the wires right? Firing order is 1,4,3,2, and the 
cylinder layout as seen from the rear is:  

3--[ ]--1
4--[ ]--2
