<x-charset iso-8859-1>I thought it was fairly straightforward: The power goes to the horn via a fuse; The return wire goes to the column switch and to the copper sweeper contact; The steering wheel insulated brass ring picks up from the copper contact and transfers to the horn pad; The horn pad connects to the column; The column connects to the steering box via the copper braid across the rubber coupler (joins a pair of adjacent bolts); The steering box grounds the current to the frame via the front axle and completes the circuit. I still think hooting when braking is more likely too small a gap between the wheel and the switch housing, or too much sideways movement of the column. However, in a '71 there are some insulating washers under the three spring-loaded pins. How does the later pad deal with this? The brass pick-up ring mustn't be able to get connected to the column/steering wheel unless you push the pad. Dave.
