<x-charset iso-8859-1>Hi to the list. I am a new member, and an old Volkswagen owner. I have owned 3 Volkswagens over the years, and now my daughter is the some what proud owner of a 1970 square back. That makes me chief mechanic. I didn't have anything to say about the purchase of this vehicle, it just sort of followed her home. We seem to have eclectic taste in vehicles since I am working on a 1973 Lotus Europa. It has been many years since I turned a wrench on a VW, but I think that is going to change in the near future. The previous owner of the square back did some engine mods, and from what I can see they were not properly done. For starters he removed the FI, and replaced it with carb's. he also added headers. When he installed the headers, he removed the heater boxes. No this might not be a problem in So. Cal., but is a big problem in Idaho's winters. Can anyone tell me where I can find a header type exhaust system that will work with the type 3 engine and heater boxes? Is there anyone that specializes in parts for the type 3? I see bug and super bug parts all over the place, but type 3 parts seem to be scarce. For those headed for the Parma event, We have been having some real heat here. Just set records for consecutive days over 105 degrees, with some of the days above 110. For this area that is HOT. Hopefully by the middle of August, the temps will be cooler. Robert M.
