The 68-9 pump is sealed from the motor, but the 70-3 pump has the motor filled with gas. The late pump has all three connections in parallel; if one of your connections is at right angles to the others then this is an early pump. If this is a late pump, I'd turn it in such a direction that it runs and then just let it for a few hours (hot wire the pump.) Do this outdoors so you don't have a problem if you spring a fuel leak.
