[T3] Fireworks? Who needs 'em!
<x-flowed>Well, I spent the 4th as many of you probably did. Started the day out by
going to my sister's house for a family barbecue. Then my dad and I started
talking about cars. Next thing ya know I'm over at his house with my
squareback's engine dropped, the soldering iron going for the wiring
harness, and the arc welder going for the drive plate. We re-welded the
broken rivets on the drive plate, then painted it red. (I have no idea why,
but it seemed like the thing to do at the time) Then I pulled out the
Bentley and re-adjusted the brake bands in the auto transmission. My dad,
with his soldering genius, fixed the broken wires coming out of the throttle
position sensor and the cold start injector. We started at about 5:00pm,
and I drove my squareback home at 12:30am. Needless to say, we had no
interest in fireworks or any other such festivities. It's only about 2
miles from my parents to my place, so I couldn't tell much, but it runs
decidedly better. Ever since I first got the car running in '95 it has done
a weird thing when you let your foot completely off the throttle. It will
act like it's going to completely die, but then will kick the fuel in at the
last moment and it will rev back up to idle speed. I thought that was just
characteristic of the car, but after fixing the wires to the t.p.s., it
doesn't do that anymore. Who'd have known? Also after re-adjusting the
brake bands, it feels more determined as to what gear it's in. We'll see if
that could be what was causing the bogging down when hot. Thanks everyone
for responding to my "they can run well, Right?" posts, and I hope I have
more good news to report after having a chance to drive it some more.
