I just replaced the shifter bushing in my Fastback last week, and I found that it is really easy to get at. You have to take off the four bolts around the base of the shifter and lift the plate up, the shifter bushing is underneath that plate. You should be able to get the plate far enough up to have a look at the bushing without undoing the coupling underneath the car. This is another part that can cause sloppy shifting when the rubber in them goes squishy.
