Yeah, that's hot! Wow, 111F. I drove thru Wyoming about 20 years ago in August and stopped to get gas only to be told that it was 112F. I was driving my 71 square with its freshly rebuilt engine, stock except for CW crank, full flow filter, and ported heads. It had absolutely no problems on that trip except for the fact that I was leaking oil off the bottom of the sump. 20W-50 oil did NOT fix that, but at the next oil change I noticed that the 2 case halves did not line up to each other perfectly at the sump plate. I loosened all the bolts along the bottom, pushed things into alignment and retightened. That fixed the leak permanently. Since that experience I've noticed that it often takes some persuation from me to line this area of the case up, but I do it up front rather than later, with oil dripping in my face. That day driving thru Wyoming certainly seemed warm, but it really didn't seem as hot there as it feels in the midwest when it is 96F and 95% humidity. I suspect we'll see several such days on the way to, and in, Idaho. I think that one thing to keep in mind is that highway driving is fairly easy on the engine and undemanding on the cooling system. It's nice to have all that extra airflow around and under the car. Contrast this to standing in stalled traffic with the heated air just building up underneath you. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
