Good evening to everyone, I've had some questions arise in the last few days and I can't find the obvious, jump-out-at-ya answers in any of my books. I think I came close but, just don't know. And so I am turning to you all, cuz' this is my first try at this and sometimes it hurts to be a newbie. Here goes: The engine is apart in the garage, new slugs and jugs in a box next to it. The old slugs: 85.5, ditto the new ones. Same crank as before: I measured it at 70 mm, should-be, could-be a 69 mm? (I thought there were no 70 mm cranks, is this right?) AAR, deck height measured on 1 cylinder (bolted down at TDC) at .055" (.030+.025+ wouldn't take a .001" feeler gauge) along with a 56 cc(is that right?) on a stock 041 head gives a final of 1585 cc's (@69 X 85.5mm's). I know I need to measure the other 3, but I'm assuming similar results. Enough of the math, now for the questions 1. Deck height should be optimal at .055" to.065", is this right? This motor had no shims/ no spacers on the barrels when I tore it down, I hadn't planned on putting them on unless I had a cylinder out of spec. 2. I understand I should have a motor with a CR at 7.2:1 with the 56 cc combustion chambers on the stock 041's. She wouldn't run worth a lick on 87 octane fuel before the teardown, only 92 or better. Was I/am I asking for trouble at 7.2:1 on a daily driver? The power was adequate, I'm perfectly happy with longevity and reliability over gobs of power at this point. The final motor will have the 34 ICT's, 041's w/ a mild p&p, 1:1 rockers w/ the swivels from before but probably with some Berg hardware to beefen things up, and the tuned exhaust w/ Jetcoat from before. I do plan on balancing out the pistons, I was told it's cheap insurance to be as close as possible on weight and within .5 cc on CR for the best performance. If anyone can give me the bottom line or at least point me in the right direction (I can't find Bob Hovver's sermon's anywhere on the web), we would really be appreciative.
