<x-charset iso-8859-1>Todd, this is normal. Actually, the conditions you describe show your engine is in good condition. Here's how it has been explained to me in the past: When the car starts for a second, or if you were to crank it and not have it start, the oil pressure builds up and thus, the light will go off. If you turn the engine off and then turn the key right back on, the oil light should not come on for a few seconds because the pressure is still built up. If it comes right back on, this is the sign of a worn engine (but not necessarily a bad thing?). This is when the engine is cold only. My '55 Bus oil light comes on immediately if it's warm outside, especially when I use 30wt. oil. It has a lot of miles on it but I've driven it like this for years with no problems. Then, I'll try to start the car by moving the key to the next position. On occasion, like when it is very cold, the car may not start on the first try or will run for a second or two then die (fairly normal). However, when I click the key off then back to the first position, the red light comes on but not the green light. The car will always start okay (eventually), but the absence of the oil light is a concern. If I stop the car after a drive then come out to restart it, the red and green lights usually go on without a problem. > ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe </x-charset>
