I think there was a larger size of type 3 rear brake cylinder used in some early type 3 squarebacks: 23.7mm rather than the more usual 22.2mm used in late type 3s. These should be somewhat easy to find and my guess is that they would drop right in. Don't be misled by what appears to be just a small change. This is a 14% change, so it may be too much. It will also require more fluid to actuate, so the pedal stroke will be longer and feel softer.
