I paint mine with Imron or Polane catalyzed polyurethane enamel, after 
sandblasting them. They last well over a decade this way, even in the salt 
and abuse of winter Wisconsin. I have some that have been around about 15 
years now and they are just starting to show very light rust coming out of the 
crack between the rim and the center disk.  

I have a good stock of refinished type 3 wheels available for anyone who is 
looking to buy some.
