I wouldn't try to clean it out in place. That would just wash a bunch of crud into your crankcase. You can unbolt it from the case, take it off and clean it out. You're right, after a few decades of use, they get really clogged up. I haven't seen one that was completely stopped up, but it's possible. > The hose connecting to the intake is clear.
