Do you usually get oil leaks into the fan > housing? if so where do they come from? Any chance this is a AT car and that most all of the oil is on the left side of the engine/transmission? In this case the oil will be ATF (red.) If so, replace the O-ring that seals the governor cover on the AT. Oil leaks into the fan housing are very unusual. If this is what's happening I'd wonder if the crankcase ventilation is plugged up so that the pressure is blowing oil out the back of the case and into the fan housing. Might this be a FI engine which was converted to carbs and the vent ignored? > Any thoughts would be appreciated so i can avoid the unnecessary replacement of > the oil cooler. Even if the leak is at the cooler, the cooler is almost always fine. It's the seals that need to be replaced. If this is your problem, request my FAQ on these seals because it's easy to get the wrong seals and just have more leaks. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
