Would all CSI with no fuel hose > on them suck vacuum like that, or just leaky ones? There could have been a leaking CSI, you shouldn't have to plug the CSI. A good point though is you have eliminated the CSI as the problem. > So with that disconnected and plugged, I tried to readjust the idle > but found the same inability. It's quit possible the timing is so far off that the engine won't go above 950 rpm's, causing a grinding sound (not good). > I run the motor and pull each SPwire off the cap one at a time and > each one causes a noticeable drop in RPM. The distributor is either for a 70 or 72 I'm not sure > which one I have in there. It's quit possible you have a mixture of FI parts. Does the distributor have a dual vacuum advance? Your symptoms don't sound like a fuel injection problem as much as a timing and spark problem. Try putting your timing light on each wire and see if you get a consistent flash from the light, if it's consistent the distributor (points/condenser) is OK. I had a similar miss with my 72 Squareback everything worked to specs except at idle there was a slight miss. It sounded like one or two cylinders were firing at 80%. The only thing that would correct it was putting a 5K pot in the line from the head temp sensor. Problem was that when I adjusted the pot to clear the miss it ran too rich. So now I run it and live with the miss until I swap the brain with an other 72/73 brain. Check all of you fuel injection parts to ensure they are compatible with each other. Sorry I don't have a parts list handy but if you post some numbers I am sure this list let you know if they are compatible. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe </x-charset>
