<x-charset iso-8859-1>VW did not abandon them...... with the advent of watercooled cars they became unneccessary..... even in the 80's you could get the watercooled Vanagon Westies with a BA6 gasoline heater for use while camping.. My 1982 Diesel Vanagon has a diesel operated BA6 under it as an auxiliary heater.... You can even buy brand new Eberspacher gas heaters... http://www.eberspacher.com/ I have experience on working on Eberspacher and Stewart Warner gas heaters, and have had no problems so far......
