<x-flowed>This is an update to my automatic tranny rebuild. With my trusty ATSG (Automatic Transmission Service Group) Manual, a pair of rubber gloves, and a really big hammer(just kidding) I successfully navigated and "rebuilt" the automatic section of the transmission. Nothing unusual to report. It was surprisingly clean inside. The final drive is another story altogether. The oil that I drained from the final drive was a mixture of gear oil and ATF. I also found some interesting bits in the oil. Pictures are posted at http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292011127 Apparently parts from the governor got loose and into the final drive. The ring and pinion gears are also quite worn. When my brother bought the car it came with a second transmission. It is an 003 tranny, but it isn't a type 3. The final drive housing has a different engine bolt hole mounting pattern. The final drive is also about 2" longer. Would this have come from a bus or type 4? I now need a new final drive, or parts to rebuild the one I have. Anyone have a good final drive to sell, or a source for parts? The company I got the rebuild kit from does not offer any parts for the final drive.
