RE: [T3] GL-5

<x-charset iso-8859-1>When our cars were built the specifications were commensurate with the
times, but now 30+ plus years down the road the specifications and
technology have merged. There may be somebody on the list who can answer
this in more detail, but the difference between GL-3, GL-4, GL-5 may only be
the additives package added to the base oil. With today's technology it's
quit possible to blend an oil with an additive package that would provide
satisfactory service in all applications. Just a thought.

Yes, GL-4 is hard to find in "user friendly" qualtities. I don't know first
hand
what the problems with GL-5 in our trannies might be and I have simply
chosen to accept what the manual and my oil distributor say about this. I've

seen the multiple spec on bottles, too, and I agree that this is confusing.

I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. I just think the potential for
disappointment is so large that I just try to stay out of trouble.
