<x-charset iso-8859-1>On another note, > that site is a UK site, is there different code data for cars that were US > Bound? Looking at my VIN Tag my numbers start with "316" which doesn't > concur with that sites info. The USA-bound Type 3s were all made in Germany - no other colours available in those. Please explain how the VIN codes on the site are different? 31 is Notch or Fastback, and as you say the 6 in '316' means 1966. The picture of the chassis plate explains that (The only error is 35 for panel van, which should be 36 like the Squareback). The info is from the (US-spelling) VW Type 3 Parts book, used in English-speaking countries (Australia had some special models though). L and M codes are all on the lists - just the same as for USA cars. You may notice there are some which specifically apply to USA and Canada, just as some engines apply only to California. Dave.
