<x-charset iso-8859-1>>> I have photos of the belt disassembled on my '67 Squareback page: >> http://www.thesamba.com/vw/scrapbook/67square >> Click on "Log". >> > it looks like you replaced two springs on your belt. one was the head spring and one as the retension spring. are both of these springs unique? ie can you only get them from another type 3, or would a spring store or hardware store carry them? and how did your rivet the belt back together? is it a pop rivet? where do you get rivets that size? > I think they are both unique, or at least I have not seen similar springs on the large display board of springs at my local hardware store. The spring in the head could probably be formed from a cut or bent version of another spring that is readily available. I still need to rivet the head back together, which I have not done yet as I am searching for a "correct" brass rivet. I had purchased one but it turned out to be too short. Otherwise, I will just use a normal rivet, available anywhere. The rivet in the head only limits the travel of the plastic sliding cover, as well as holding the cover on, it does not actually serve any seat belt functionality. The seat belt is still on my workbench so if anyone wants any other photos, let me know. Another point of interest - When the belt is completely retracted, it is rotated 2 complete turn to pre-tension the spring, the position of the spring and cover can be seen in the photo.
