They're wrong about the tailpipe #. Any VW number ending in 251 061 will be
a muffler. If you want to use this mid year muffler, you need the damper pipe
# 311 251 157 and the tailpipe extension # 311 251 185. If you get all three
of these parts, they will fit together on your car, just fine. As I read their
(poorly written) note, I believe that they are admitting that they didn't send
you what they advertized, but that they are declining to do anything about it.
I note that they have another one of these up for auction.
The late damper pipe that you already have is worth more than the early pair.
I carry all of these, and would be willing to trade you and pay your shipping, if
that would help. I realize that this is not what you really wanted, but it will
work and it is much more cost effective than shipping mufflers around the
country.
