<x-charset iso-8859-1>This practice is now illegal in the UK, it was quite a popular conversion during the 70's Buggy boom. At the end of the day, too many people were bodging it and obviously if the wheel fails it ultimately puts peoples lives at risk. So over here (even though it is possible to do it properly) they just banned the practice outright. He says it's not uncommon to take a stock rim to a shop where they cut it and put it back together with a band welded in 'round the middle to make the rim wider. Bizarre. He says it only costs something like $20 each, if you can believe it! I would hope that they've got special jigs and saws set up to do this accurately. -Greg ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org </x-charset>
