<x-flowed>i lost my muffler on my healey/sprite on the freeway one day....so, having zero money at the time, i got creative. i ran a straight pipe from the header to the rear of the car and hung a cherrybomb off of it. it was quiet at idle and deafening at the 7k the engine turned on the highway. so, still being broke, i flanged the tail end of the pipe, turned the thing around and ran the cherry bomb in the 1st 5th of the exhaust. the tone changed, and the volume really change...much more quiet! on the notch, i have a simular situation, but different, situation. i have the muffler (turbo) at the end of the exhaust, but i have almost 3ft of pipe. the tone is much different, and hardly has a VW note. the next time i need a muffler, it will go right behind the collector, and i believe the note will get more quiet as well....so, my suggestion for a 1600-1955cc sized motor is to run a 1.5 inch exhaust w/ the pipe exsiting in front of the right rear wheel for your best performance if you want 'every last horsepower'. otherwise, with the heaterboxes, you are limited to a 1 3/8 pipe anyway... -- Brian--1964 Notch Speedster 2332cc & 1959 Bug http://www.geocities.com/menacefye/ Type 3 Invasion Aug. 17th and 18th http://www.geocities.com/menacefye/invasion.html ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org </x-flowed>
