<x-charset iso-8859-1>I use eBay a lot to buy stuff, mostly books and literature because those are the items I cannot find when I attend shows. I only bid on items where I have a good guess what the piece is worth. If I am interested in something but do not know the value, I email my friends or ask the list. If I am in doubt about any item, I email the seller. If they do not give the responses I want, I do not bid or I bid low to compensate for the possible risk. I maintain this policy no matter what the item. It's funny how once you buy something that is "rare," you often find the same thing a couple weeks later for cheaper and in better condition. ;) It's also good for hard-to-find parts. I called Bill & Steve's to buy new front brake shoes for my '63 Squareback, they said they were NLA and I would have to send them my shoes to be relined. I did a search on eBay and had 2 sets within a week. I have never had any problems with buyers or sellers. I have gotten some deals on eBay but nothing compared to purchases at VW swap meets or from other Internet ads.
