You have to register there to buy and sell, but there is no charge to register. There is an ebay charge to sellers, but none to buyers. There is a LOT of stuff on ebay and lots of it is misrepresented, either by intent or ignorance, so it is up to you to be careful. It is easy to commit yourself to the purchase of something that you can't use. So be careful in reading the descriptions. Once you decide you want to buy something you just decide how much you're willing to pay for it and then you give ebay a proxy to act in your behalf and bid up to that amount for that object. This is what a proxy bid is. You may get it for less or you may not get it at all, but ebay's computer will not bid more for it than you give them the proxy for. Once the auction has expired, if you are the winner, you and the seller get together by email and you pay him the winning bid price PLUS what he asks for shipping. Good sellers specify the shipping price in the auction description. Be careful here, because there are some sellers who will try to make up for a low selling price by jacking up the shipping costs. My advice is to just watch a few auctions for awhile before you bid yourself, then bid cautiously. There are always type 3 VW parts on there for sale; some are desirable, some are not, and some are way overpriced. Don't jump for the first one you see. You can often get a better deal from someone on this email list. You really shouldn't bid on something unless you have a pretty good idea what it is worth. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
