Abarth mufflers for VWs came out in the 70s and around 74 I owned a
knockoff made by Stebro. The later Abarths came with a lifetime warrantee,
but they were not stainless, just heavy gauge steel and that did make a
difference. This SST copy looks to have a smaller diameter body which is
unfortunate, and the tacked-on larger diameter tailpipes are not authentic. To
me they just look "riced-up" to give it the look of hot-rod wanna-bees. They're
reminiscent of the huge 4" tailpipes you can see on the occasionall little
Honda, where if you look in there with a flashlight you can see the real 1-1/2"
tailpipe buried down inside.

I also wonder if the oversize tailpipes will clear the rear apron of the car. One
of the advantages of the original style was that it took advantage of the
exhaust indent in the body, something that none of the other aftermarket
exhaust systems do.

IIRC, the original Abarth type 3 mufflers cost about $120 at a time when
OEM exhaust systems cost about half that. The original Abarths were quite
nice. I called someone about 15 years ago who told me he had a type 3
Abarth still on his shelf. He wasn't quite desperate enough to sell it, and I
wasn't quite desperate enough to buy it, so we didn't manage to agree on a
price. Sometimes I just shouldn't be so cheap.... ;-)

Perhaps some of you with cheap type 3s should take advantage of this
opprotunity to double the value of your cars! I'm sure that once this one sells,
ISP will have another on auction.
