<x-charset iso-8859-1>My two bits.... Although I have not driven either of my 6V Type 34 Karmann Ghias, I did have my 1960 Beetle with its original 6V system and 36hp motor as a daily driver for five years (1996-2001) and yes, the headlights were a little dim--but that was fixable with Hella H4 headlights and 6V HALOGEN (yes Virginia, they DO exist) bulbs. Otto started in the coldest of temperatures and would go places I don't dare take my 2001 Golf TDI. If your friend doesn't mind listening to AM/FM without cd or cassette, I would recommend leaving the vehicle as it was designed and just preventatively clean ALL of the brass contacts at the fuse box and the various electrical connections to ward off the 6V gremlins which are bound to frustrate any dirty connections. I have found Wurth's "Kontaktoel" (Contact Oil) to be excellent for cleaning electrical connections. Changing over is lots more work than most people realize, and the consequences of forgetting to change some things like the wiper motor can be expensive. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org </x-charset>
