<x-charset iso-8859-1>I bought a set of NOS 1500 domed Kolbenschmidt pistons and cylinders today. They have the wrist pins with them but no rings. No problem with that though. I picked up 3 complete sets (1 VW, 1 Goetze, 1 ATE) of NOS rings last week. It looks like I may actually build a 1500s engine sometime in the future. A friend was showing me a copy of the "Progressive Refinements" book today. Volume 1 only goes up to the end of 1961 so there is not a lot of Type 3 material included in it. Here are the entries I found in a quick scan: 28 Apr 1961, Chassis 0 000 001 - Volkswagen 1500 Sedan - start of production 29 Sept 1961, Chassis 0 000 269 - Karman Ghia Coupe - start of production 2 Oct 1961, Chassis 0 002 062 - Beginning of 1962 model year 5 Dec 1961, Chassis 0 007 478 - Shock Absorber - Now painted grey, formerly painted black 15 Dec 1961, Chassis 0 006 827 - VW Variant - start of production Dates and chassis numbers don't really seem to line up on everything, but it's one cool book. If you can ever find it, grab it. I actually now have a photocopy of it (about 200 pages). I've received word that there is a 1962 notchback here in Boise, Idaho for sale for $1,000. It is supposed to be a running, driving car. I won't find out any more information until Tuesday. If it's any good, it'll be mine. There is also a 1962 or 1963 Type 34 for the same price. Once again, I'm getting information on Tuesday, and I'm going to try to get it. I just need to get rid of the '71 bus I have now.
