I'm concerned that you're getting sidetracked. There are VERY few wires that are important to the generator operation. I think this list contains ALL of them: the first 4 are necessary: heavy wire from D+ terminal on the generator to the D+ terminal on the VR light wire from DF terminal on the generator to the DF terminal on the VR. heavy wire from the B+ wire on the VR to the battery + terminal battery ground strap These last 2 are good ideas, but not absolutely necessary for generator operation: transmission ground strap (sort of, really much more important for the starter than for the generator since there are alternate adequate grounds for the generator.) Brown ground wire (69-on only) from generator body to VR body (optional, the system will work without this wire if the other grounds are intact.) If your VR has been moved then you need to make sure that the VR body is well grounded. bolts to the body are usually adequate, but if yours is mounted on fiberglass or wood they you'll want to add a ground wire. Remember, the clutch cable, throttle cable, heater cables, & heater tubes all provide alternate grounds for the engine/transmission. These are usually enough for the generator (30A) but not for the starter (100+A.) -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
