[T3] car won't start

I heard a funny, rapid, tiktiktiktiktik sound coming from it. The belt looks
fine, not loose. About a month ago
Derrick told me the brushes were worn and needed replacing. Could that be
it? Oil level is OK and tank is full.
What do you think? Lori

The funny rapid tiktiktiktik is most likely an arcing high voltage sparkplug
wire , do not touch
your engine when you hear this or you may be dancing the lambada with your
eyes bugging out
(personal experiences (several times) of electrocution) , kind of hurts .
Check coil wire
for tightness, plug to cap wires and remove distributor cap and make sure
nothing is falling apart or broken
inside there, check the inside and outside of distributor cap for dirt or
black carbon trails
(easy to see if you have them trails) clean cap inside and out with CLEAN
rags or kitchen
paper towels, also inspect and clean top of coil , It has happened to me
before. If the
tiktiktiktik continues , have someone turn the engine while another observes
the the engine in
the dark or night , the enigine observer may see blue sparks comming from a
wire or cap or
coil. If it comes out of the wires replace them , if it is comming out of
the cap or coil , they are either
still dirty or may need replacing.

The brushes would not cause a no start, I do not think the no start
condition is related to your
charging or battery if the engine is turning well . If your engine were
turning slowly or barely or
not at all then I may blame it. Change your brushes anyhow , you will need a
screw driver for
brush removal , 13mm deep socket with long extension and rachet to loosen
the two mounting
nuts, an 8mm wrench for the two wires that hook up the generator (That is if
the wires are not
plugged into a socket on some newer generators) Remove the three wires on
the now loose generator
and turn the generator case to a position that makes it easy to remove the
Brush screw , be
careful not to drop the screw into the generator , if you do , you may have
to fully rmove the
generator to fish out the screw. After replacing the top brush turn the
generator some more, if it
resist turning push the generator foreward (toward the front of the car ) to
clear it , turn it until
you can easily see the other brush and replace it . Return the Generator to
a good position
by lining up the the generator alignment line (stamped on the case) to the
bracket dot (also stamped in).
Remove the fan belt top cover and make sure the two pullies are aligned and
the fan belt is parallel to the
engine fan shroud, wrong would be belt at an angle, will make noise or wear
out the belt or make the belt fall off.
Easy to do right with approximation. Tighten generator and reinstall wires.
Make sure big gen wire does not
touch metal it may spark . (i am not sure if it is true) . I can do all of
this in 5 minutes.
