I will take a look at this, but I doubt whether this is the case. I adjusted the carbs with the linkage off. Originally the linkage was so short that it was holding the throttle partially open and the throttle stop screw had no effect. I made it longer so it slipped over the ball without exerting any pressure on the throttle actuation arm. Anyway, it's still worth a look, but I am still guessing that the problem is caused by a lack of lubrication somewhere. When this happens (and I don't think it always happens) I can get the rpm to go down by twisting the linkage till it's closed.
