This doesn't work on our style of caliper. We have 2 pistons, each one sitting  
in what amounts to a blind hole. There is no way to get behind it and press it 
out.

Sounds like you're thinking of Dasher calipers. Those had 2 pistons in a common 
bore. On those I suppose you could even press both pistons out at the same 
time, one forwards and the other backwards.
