I've used a normal, after-market alarm system in my baby. Bought a $100 unit
from J.C. Whitney and it served its purpose quite well (it's now in my '95
Jetta). It doesn't take much, really, for a theft deterrent and the alarm
systems I've seen can be installed by most backyard mechanics quite easily --
they're really not that complex or mysterious!
For peace of mind and a possible insurance rate reduction it's a worthy
'upgrade'.
