Re: [T3] New Squareback. New Subscriber.

Jeremy, Welcome to the fold, this is the best place for any type3 owner to
be for information on our cars. I've been told that there is collectively
about 1000 years of experience here. I too just purchased a 69 Squareback
about a month ago. Mine also has carbs (my wife's 70 fasty has them also).
Like others here have said you should get a Bentley manual for your car (best
investment money can buy) as it will show you most everything you need to
know about your car and will pay for itself very quickly. And if you have
solex carbs you should get a Haynes manual as it covers the carbs. Like Brian
said,"what kind do you have?" as that makes a difference on where to go for
information on how to tune them. If you can tell us what kind of linkage you
have maybe we can tell you what you have; i.e., 2 small thin rods going to
each carb(solex) or 1 solid linkage tying the 2 carbs together(weber or
dellorto), as this will help us.

I agree with the list, you should paint the car first before assembling it
as its very easy to get overspray on the things you don't want painted(BTDT),
although you may want to sand it first to find any hidden rust and to get the
surface to be painted smooth. It's a lot easier to do it now rather than
later, and it won't cost you a lot to prep it,or find out if it's hiding any
rust. Its better to know now rather than later.

locked

Jim and others here probably have helped you on this problem, and to replace
the old one you can use a beetle part(68-77 std models) with a lock if you
want to. Once you get the glove box open you'll see how to change it, its not
very hard to do.
On an other note you're going to find some things are either not available
or they are expensive, but thats what happens when the aftermarket doesn't
tool up for a particular model of car that wasn't produced in the
multimillions. Your best bet would be to post to the list and see if someone
else has it or knows where you can find it. I hope this helps, and don't be
afraid to ask.
