>I had this problem... last set of heads. Its cheap quality aftermarket head >syndrome... the aluminum they use is too soft... Berg warns of this and >reccomends only using the genuine VW heads. But these are genuine VW heads from my 71 Fasty. I personally rebuilt them with new guides and new VW valves all around. Only did a 3 angle valve job to the seats. Only non-stock part of the heads are the springs. They are bugpack hi-rev single springs. >You have a SERIOUS blow by problem at the head seal. with a new engine you >should see no carbon outside the combustion chamber and the sealing surface >should be uniform silver. Did you lap the cylinders in?? > Did not lap the cylinders in. Have never heard of doing that. I personally resurfaced the head surface, though. The P&C are new. I was really surprised by the amount of blow-by. Maybe will try lapping them in. Not sure what else to do about that. I will have to try to find another head. I think I will try to use this head until the snow flies and I get my winter car out. Then I can redo this engine again. 8^( OR at least the head.
