<x-flowed>A little bit more info on the 3.875 diff.

*All pinions are with 8 teeth.

*There are three different rings for T1/T14/T3.
   35t for the 1200/1300 models, this is 4.375:1
   33t for the 1500/1600 models, this is 4.125:1
   31t for 73-up T1/T14 1600 cars, this is 3.875:1

So, if you find a diff with only 31t you have the 3.875 ring, and 
there's no need to dismantle the entire tranny to replace teh pinion. 
OTOH, it may be easier to swap the tranny as a unit.
