Bentley for T-1's 70 to 79 says the 3.875 tranny is for Karmann Ghia 71
through 74 and for Beetle/Super Beetle 73 and later. The ratio for 1st and
4th gear changed in 73 too.
The code letter for the 3.875 tranny is AT.
It is readilly available in France and Belgium and goes for +-700 euros
