<x-charset iso-8859-1>You may have to put it on a scope to find the problem. It sounds like it may be the distributor shorting when it advances. Thomas E. I *think* it is electrical in origin, since I can hear it crackling on the radio. It came on suddenly - one day it was just there. I found the copper braid inside the distributor had frayed, but replaced this and it didn't go away. The car idles well, but misfires at mid - high rpm. (no radio crackling at idle!) I have checked the following: Swapped in new HT leads, dist. cap, rotor arm, coil, condenser. Points are new, set to about 50' dwell - this drops, off idle, to 45 or so. Plugs are all ~0.6mm and new. Plug leads all read about 1KOhm. Cleaned the FI pickups in the distributor. I went round all 4 injectors and disconnected them at mid rpm - all 4 had an effect. Today I put Redex injector cleaner in the tank and drove it to work, so its had a good run at high temp. It could still get up to 70 mph, given enough time :-). I've put a strobe on all 4 plugs, and the flywheel seems steady during the misfire. Distributor is (probably) original - 128k miles so definitely worn. What can it be ?! You can probably tell by now I've pretty much tried everything, and I'm frustrated. I tried the list archive without success (half the "hits" for 'misfire' were not even related!). I hope someone can help!
