[T3] a dream realized
<x-flowed>wow,
i think that is an appropriate way to start out. imagine it! 31 cars
and more car lovers converged on a small desert town to meet. that is
what the rest of the non- 3 world would call fanatical. we just called
it a good excuse to meet! as toby and my wife both know, my original
car # for personally feeling the Invasion was a success was 10. We had
31... a small gathering on the VW scale of things, but a grand parade in
my little world. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! those of you that could not
come, there were thoughts of you as well.
friday morning found me a bit down, okay, a lot down. it seemed the
biggest group was not going to have a single car come. then, the news
that the oregon crowd was stopped and not sure if they were going to get
to ontario before saturday... Sonic was going to be a type 3 ghost town.
then, i see arizona bob's car while running errands!!! at least one
weary traveler had found refuge. later that evening, i head to the host
hotel to gather bob, and what do i see? 7 other type 3s had arrived.
my hope slowly growing, my faith starting to rise, i go to gather the
faithful! they are running a bit behind, so i decide to go alert the
car hop and as i pull out... 5 more type 3s!!! be still my heart... we
have 14 type 3s at the car hop by 8:30pm and life is good! names to
faces, faces to cars and food in our stomachs! at almost 9:45pm my
phone rings and the rest of the weary travelers have arrived... all
told, 22 type 3s had been in the Sonic car hop that evening! booming
success in my little world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
saturday morning found me up early, on the look out for that group of
rabble-rousers... at 11:00am, a road weary square pulls up. the driver
says he is here to film the event. okay is my thought. shortly after,
the type 3s start to arrive, but we are missing the camping group...
seems they felt the need to put on prom dresses for the tech day ;-) .
cars were all 'prettied up' and they finally arrived. wow, i count 27
cars that day! later, the jealous crowd showed up... 'nough said.
after the tech session, thank you Jim, Keith, John and Russ, we gather
for a merry trip to another little desert town. 22 type 3s traveling in
a swarm? pack? flock? gaggle? I know, in a formation!!!! anyway, 22
type 3s drove 8 miles to Nyssa, OR where we had an impromptu photo
session! very cool indeed. after this we all invade a local burger
joint and ice cream is the order of the moment! bodies cool, minds
relax and the parking lot is packed with 3s!!! Anyone have a pic of
that for me? After the ice cream, some go to the BBQ in the campgrounds
(was to be very tasty i hear) and others go back to Ontario, OR for an
air-conditioned sit down dinner and time to socialize. I learned in
that dinner time that there are some very dark thinkers in light sided
clothing! air-conditioned :-D it was a great time!
sunday, the prom queens were late again, some monday morning workers had
to leave early and i finally had a chance to stick my head in other
people's cars! there were some cool things to see (right keith?) after
a short spell, the few awards were given out and people began to travel.
others of us went to the local mesquito hang out (city park) and just
had a hard time saying good bye. then, PerL reminds me that I owed him
a ride in my car for flying this far. I hope he enjoyed it! again,
more difficulty saying good bye and finally, the little town of Parma
was as still as it had been, just like all brief encounters with the
unknown make such towns.
Again, thanks to all that came, you made my year!
