<x-charset iso-8859-1>Hi all! Well, Parma sounded like it was allot of fun! I wish I could have gone, but as I await my various stages of LAPD tests and interviews, I had to break down and get a full time job to pay the bills... :-( Speaking of bills.... My 68 FI Sq, Betabel, had been making a high-pitched humming noise when the clutch was depressed, for easily over a year. I kept expecting the throw-out bearing to grind itself to nothing, but the clutch continued to work for the longest time, and that's what 4 speakers and a CD player are for, right? ;-) Well, about 2 months ago, the noise stopped, but the clutch pedal travel changed, too, and it was not always easy to get into 1st gear. The clutch started slipping a bit too, . So I figured, it must be time to change the clutch and throw-out bearing, and took her in to this great little shop down the way. (United Auto on Lankershim, in North Hollywood) As it turns out, the gland nut may have been the noisy culprit! It was spraying oil all over my clutch plates - which would also explain the oil leak that no amount of care in replacing the oil filter would fix! So, new gland nut, clutch plate, etc. $295. Not too bad, I think.. Well.. as it turns out, the oh-so-common broken weld on the clutch cable tube was also a player in this story, so, it is being fixed today. My guy is hoping the tube doesn't need to be replaced (as am I) he says that's a $200 dollar job... Anyone know what that entails??? I've had this happen to a Ghia I used to have, it had eaten two clutch cables in a week... Betty hasn't broken one yet... Well, there is my story . . . ALSO I can't help but be discouraged because my call for suggestions for an LA Type 3-4 etc meet has gone ignored. (for www.wolfpackla.com) What's up, guys? Summer is nearly over!
