Check your valve lash to start. This might be tightening valves.

What distributor are you using?

Definitely!
If you can see head or cyl or in between them from motor top on any type
1 2 or 3, you are missing tin. If you can see straight UP and see them,
you are missing tin.
You are probably not cooling your P and C's and Heads very much at all
then, as what you describe entails you are missing both upper and lower
cyl tin, let alone the pieces that go in between the Cyls and head to
block up the center.

Got pics of that engine?
I wouldn't drive it until you show us that engine tin. I just saw some
trike engine burn, lack of tin also.
