Jason, I try to enter all the shows I attend as it gives you a base of operations to work from. There are always people watching your car for you whether you want them to or not (very secure). I took a friend of mine to a show once, paid to show it and went looking for parts. We ended up leaving early and later found out I won the class. Owning a type3 puts you into a different catagory and also gives you a better chance to win something (even when not trying), and helps others by letting them know that yes, you can restore/show a type3 and not have to have an old bug, bus, or ghia to be there (it also gives people something different to look at). I also like talking to the different people at the shows, this year at the Michigan show I talked to a german couple that commented on my car, and several people asking other questions, not to mention plugging the type3.org site :) . I usually go mainly to have fun, look for parts for the next project and enjoy the atmosphere that only comes from being at a VW event. I hope this helps you on your decision, and I'll get off my soap box now.
