Replace battery ground strap. I strongly recommend that you NOT try to repolarize the generator. This is only necessary under VERY special circumstances and there is enough risk of doing something wrong and damaging something that I usually don't recommend it. In 30 years I have come across only one generator which needed to be repolarized and that was in a Karmann Ghia that the owner had installed the battery backwards, which reversed the original polarization.
